报告摘要：
We analyze the interplay of technology, markets, and policy in advancing energy sustainability. The history of energy innovation bears out the importance of the nexus, and it will remain central as societies pursue reliable and sustainable energy systems. Our discussion extends the “technology-push” – “market-pull” coupling with “policy pump” as an additional forcing function. Examples from around the world are outlined, referencing how technology, markets, and policy have contributed to progress. We also discuss carbon capture and storage, where progress has been limited, and data centers, which represent a new frontier. Implications for technology innovators arising from the analysis of the nexus are also presented. This is joint work with Dr. Himanshu Khurana.
嘉宾简介：
Tariq Samad holds the W.R. Sweatt Chair in Technology Management at the Technological Leadership Institute, and leads industry relationships at the Minnesota Robotics Institute, both in the University of Minnesota. He joined academia in 2016 after a 30-year career with Honeywell, retiring as Corporate Fellow. At Honeywell he led technology developments in automation and control for the process industries, homes and buildings, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive sectors. He is president-elect of IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society and past president of the American Automatic Control Council and IEEE Control Systems Society. He is a Fellow of IEEE and IFAC. His publications include the Encyclopedia of Systems and Control (co-editor-in-chief, Springer). He is the editor for a book series on “Technology Management, Innovation, and Leadership” (Wiley). He received his B.S. from Yale University and M.S. and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
